What is Nissan's ProPILOT Assist?

Safety technology is one of those things that can't be iterated enough. The ultimate goal is to prevent auto accidents from happening altogether. Still, until we can make that a reality, auto manufacturers all over the world are constantly looking for ways to mitigate risk and save lives. In the case of Nissan, the latest advancement in safety technology is ProPILOT Assist, a dynamic hands-on driving assistant designed to add an extra layer of protection at all times.

How Does Nissan ProPILOT Assist Work?

Nissan ProPILOT Assist combines a front radar sensor with the front-facing camera that's located behind the rearview mirror to dynamically measure the area between you and the car in front of you, altering your speed to maintain a specified preset distance. It leverages existing technologies to make this happen, the Nissan Intelligent Cruise Control and Steering Assist, and includes a stop and hold function. Essentially, it brings the vehicle to a complete stop, holds it, and can resume normal speeds in traffic conditions.

How Will Nissan ProPILOT Assist Evolve into the Future?

As previously stated, safety technology can't be iterated on enough. Hence, the next obvious question is figuring out where this technology is going to go. As we move into the next generation of Nissan ProPILOT, it will be able to support steering, braking, and acceleration.

For example, if a driver takes their hands off the wheel, it will cycle through a series of alerts to get them back in place. If the driver does not, the system will bring the vehicle to a complete stop.

What Vehicles Come Equipped with Nissan ProPILOT Assist?

As we head into the next decade, more and more Nissan models will be equipped with Nissan ProPILOT Assist. These models include the 2020 Nissan Rogue, the 2019 Nissan Rogue Sport, the 2019 Nissan Leaf, and the 2020 Nissan Altima.
